Automatic Door Compliance in Kent

BS 7036-0 is the current UK Code of Practice covering the safe use of automatic doors in service.
It sets out the responsibilities of duty holders and focuses on ongoing safety through inspection, maintenance, risk assessment and record keeping, ensuring doors remain safe and compliant throughout their life.

BS EN 16005 is the primary safety standard for power-operated pedestrian doors.
It defines the safety requirements for operation, including detection zones, forces and protection against impact, trapping and crushing.

These regulations require that doors and gates are safe, suitable and maintained, ensuring they do not present a risk to employees or the public within a workplace environment.

This legislation applies to new automatic door installations and requires systems to be safely designed, correctly
installed, UKCA/CE marked, and supplied with the appropriate documentation, including a Declaration of Conformity.

PUWER places a duty on those in control of equipment to ensure automatic doors are safe, properly maintained, regularly inspected and used by competent persons.

Automatic doors must be regularly serviced and maintained to ensure continued safe operation.
This includes checking safety devices, identifying faults and keeping the system compliant with current standards.

The duty holder (such as the building owner or employer) is responsible for ensuring automatic doors are
safe at all times, with suitable maintenance, risk assessments and competent contractors in place.
Failure to do so can result in liability if an incident occurs.
